Haridwar / Rishikesh → Gangotri (Drive · ~250 km)
Early pickup from Haridwar or Rishikesh. Scenic mountain drive through Uttarkashi, Harsil, and Bhaironghati to the holy town of Gangotri. Attend the spectacular evening Ganga Aarti at Gangotri Temple. Acclimatization walk along the Bhagirathi. Overnight in hotel/guesthouse.
Gangotri → Chirbasa → Bhojbasa (14 km Trek · 12,450 ft)
Begin the Gaumukh Tapovan Trek after morning puja at Gangotri Temple. Trek along the right bank of Bhagirathi through dense Bhojpatra and deodar forests to Chirbasa (3,600 m), then continue to the open valley of Bhojbasa (3,792 m). Stunning views of Bhagirathi peaks from camp.
Bhojbasa → Gaumukh → Tapovan (8 km Trek · 14,611 ft)
The most exhilarating day of the Gaumukh Tapovan Trek. Cross the Gangotri Glacier to reach Gaumukh — the glacial snout where the holy Ganga originates. Steep but rewarding ascent to Tapovan meadow at 4,451 m. Stand before Mt. Shivling, Mt. Meru, and the Bhagirathi Sisters. Stargazing at night.
Tapovan Exploration & Descent to Bhojbasa (8 km)
Sunrise over Mt. Shivling — one of the most photographed moments in Indian trekking. Option to explore Nandanvan (acclimatized trekkers). Begin descent via Gaumukh glacier back to Bhojbasa. A rewarding walk as the glacial landscape gives way to meadows and forests.
Bhojbasa → Gangotri → Drive Towards Haridwar (14 km)
Early morning at Bhojbasa camp before final descent to Gangotri through pine forests and open riverbanks. Visit Gangotri Temple for a final darshan. Drive towards Uttarkashi or Haridwar depending on time. Overnight en route.
Arrive Haridwar / Rishikesh — Trek Concludes
Continue drive back to Haridwar or Rishikesh. Arrive by afternoon. The Gaumukh Tapovan Trek ends — but the memories of the Gangotri Glacier, Gaumukh, Mt. Shivling, and Tapovan camp will stay with you forever.
