Mythological & Religious Significance of Kedarnath (Mahabharata Story)

After winning the war against the Kauravas, the Pandavas were filled with guilt as the battle led to the death of their own relatives, elders, and teachers. To free themselves from this sin, they decided to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva, believing that only he could grant them peace and salvation.

However, Lord Shiva was unhappy with the destruction caused by the war and did not wish to meet the Pandavas. To avoid them, he took the form of a bull (Nandi) and hid in the Garhwal Himalayas.

The Pandavas followed Lord Shiva and finally reached the Kedarnath region. When Bhima recognized the bull as Lord Shiva, he tried to stop it by holding its tail. As the bull began to sink into the ground, different parts of its body appeared at various places in the Himalayas.
